Franschhoek

Good news is that there will be a new Franschhoek Petanque Club starting soon - September 2007.

This will be situated at the Bowling Club on the pass road near the Shofar Church. The Club will start with three but will expand if the number of members demands.

The aim of the club will be to introduce the game of boules to the youth as well as their parents.

Joburg

Rivonia :What's happened to pétanque at Rivonia?

After nearly 10 years of playing there, the general feeling of members was that it's time to move on.
The main committee at Rivonia is trying to pull the club together again, but it has become unviable for us
as their new annual membership fee is R750, and we feel that we can do far better at Morningside -
at the same cost (or less). We need to grow our membership - and we just couldn't see that happening
at Rivonia. Morningside is a far more vibrant club - offering bowls, hockey, tennis, and croquet to
over 800 members. They also have a very active social section, pretty good grub, and several bars :)
What's the cost?
We'll be building a new 13x16m piste there later this month (will be ready sometime in August)
and Morningside have offered to help by ploughing back all our initial fees towards it.
Because we'll be getting it back, we have made the fees for the Pétanque section just R100 for
those who join by the end of July. But after July we will NOT be getting these fees back
towards the new piste, so anybody who joins later than July will pay the relevant MCC Membership
fee (below) +R250 for the Pétanque Section.
The way MCC works is that you join the club in order to use their facilities AND get a 10% discount on Food,
+20% on alcoholic drinks (not cooldrinks)... You then pay the relevant fee for each section - tennis,
hockey, bowls, or croquet. [By way of comparison, croquet charges +R800 to join their section].
